Sunday reading: Five links you should visit
Each week, we pick out five recent stories you may have missed, or which are worth another look at.
The Crews: Episode 1 – The Dutch Connection
Interesting new crime series from Scotland, which in lieu of finding a broadcast home is airing online instead. Speaks volumes about the state of BBC Scotland and STV that they passed on something as decent as this. Plus, where else will you see David Hayman and the bloke who played the Interceptor in the same drama?
Shada documentary – world premiere
Chris Chapman’s documentary Taken Out of Time, which will feature as an extra on the Shada DVD next year, is to get a screening at an academically-minded Doctor Who event at the University of Hertfordshire on – when else – November 23. Shada’s also getting novelised next year by Gareth Roberts,so presumably Big Finish’s bizarre reboot of it with McGann will be getting dusted off again.
Russell Tovey: “I’ve left Being Human”
Anyone who follows Thumbcast Iain on Twitter will have seen his meltdown about this yesterday – basically SFX ended up rewritting their version of the story after originally putting up a piece about how they knew ages ago but didn’t tell the readers to keep the BBC sweet. The rewritten version removes that, but now makes no grammatical sense. And when WE point that out, it must be shit.
Starburst back in print
35 years after first launching, and after a prolonged spell as a digital-only venture, Starburst is going back to printed editions from 2012 – along with the obligatory tablet versions. Welcome back, old friend! (*we reserve the right to delete that last remark if the print version turns out to be shit)
House to Astonish: Episode 72 – Broken Biscuits
Happy anniversary to Thumbcast pals Al Kennedy and Paul O’Brien as they mark the third anniversary of Scotland’s best comics podcast.
