Wanted 2? Wanted by who, exactly?
Earthshattering news from the orbit of Mark Millar last night. No, they’re not finally making Sikeside, much to the disappointment of the Coatbridge Film Council.
No, Wanted’s getting a sequel.
You remember Wanted, right? The cynical, dumb-as-a-spaniel ‘adaptation’ of Millar’s just-as-cynical comic series which jettisoned all the remotely interesting stuff about supervillains and replaced it with a sewing machine?
It did remarkably well at the cinema for being a film about assassins controlled by Fruit of the Loom, famously described by the Guardian as “a party political broadcast on behalf of the misogynist party”.
And proof that no good deed goes unpunished, the co-writer of the original, Derek Haas, has confirmed that he and partner Michael Brandt have been hired to pen Wanted 2.
The sequel will ditch the Loom – boo hoo – and Angelina Jolie’s Fox, the latter largely on account of the character being dead. Instead, it will ‘pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round”
Worryingly, Millar claims this is one of four or five big movie announcements coming in the next month – so either Kick-Ass is getting a sequel, or maybe Sikeside is going ahead after all…
