Storm in a teacup: Putting the Fantastic Fours head to head
Now, some people like the 1994 Fantastic Four. And some people like the 2005 Fantastic Four. But which is better? There's only one way to find out...
Bit of background, for those who haven't seen either/both: the 1994 version of The Fantastic Four was basically made as a rights dodge - production on it had to start before a certain date or the holders lost the rights to make a movie. So king of the ultra-low budget Roger Corman was drafted in to produce a version that would cost substantially less than the $40m originally budgeted for. The resulting film was due for release in 1994, shown at comic cons etc... then got locked in a vault, supposedly never to be seen again.Aye, right. Escape it did, and bootleg copies of it were all the rage among tape dealers at cons for a few years. It's up on Yachoob these days, if you look hard enough. In the meantime, here's the trailer:Fast forward a decade, and rights holders Constantin Films - you know, the lot who made Downfall and have spent the rest of their time hunting down resubtitled parodies on the internet - decide to have another crack at it, this time with £100m in the pot and going at it all guns blazing. The result was this:Which of course spawned a sequel, dealing with the Silver Surfer.Neither of them were blowaway hits, and the franchise is getting yet ANOTHER reboot. So, with that in mind, we're putting the two versions head to head on August's Thumbcast podcast - and we want your opinions on both. You can either tweet your thoughts to us, email us at podcast@thethumbcast.com, leave comments below... or even more simply than that, just vote in our poll:
