Geordie Star Wars: 'Sunderland! You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany...'

What happens when a bunch of Newcastle students with a knowledge of modern cinema, some film editing gear and a ragmag sensibility get their hands on the (proper) Star Wars trilogy?

Geordie Star Wars, that's what:

Yes, it's an oldie but a goodie.  I remember catching this first time round years ago, and time hasn't really dented it's twisted, silly, studenty North East sensibilities and student favourite references (including audio from Withnail & I for the cantina sequence).

Best enjoyed with a couple of pints in you, though...

Making the Hundred Acre Wood in less than twelve parsecs...

Now these are just bloody lovely. Relentlessly Cheerful artist James Hance has been rendering Han and Chewie as Christopher Robin and Pooh, and brilliantly as Calvin and Hobbes.

I love the idea of a Hobbes wookie. A big cuddly teddy bear that playfully rips your arms from your sockets once you're alone.

Go check his work out here.

"Space ain't black enough to hide from the man...": Lando Calrissian's 'lost' blaxploitation prequel Blackstar Warrior is 'found'

Well, the proposed TV series has been cancelled.

And the film series utterly shagged up the arse thanks to Tinkerman Lucas and his insistence on pissing on everyone's childhood memories.

So what could rescue the Star Wars franchise?

Blaxploitation, that's what...

All credit to everyone involved in this, which originally got an airing at SDCC before finding its way onto the internet.  The folk behind it have gone a long way to creating a very elaborate, very clever work  - even down to making a bunch of behind the scenes documentaries about the 'lost' movie.

A lot of robbers use force. This one used the Force.

A bandit decked out in a Darth Vader costume strolled into a Long Island bank on Thursday - and walked out with a wad of cash.

The villain looked ready for Halloween, wearing the "Star Wars" scoundrel's signature mask and sweeping black cape.

He lost some authenticity points for a pair of camouflage pants.

The getup struck one customer as so funny that he started joshing with the Darth Robber after he strode into the Chase bank in Setauket.

"The customer thought it might have been a joke, and not a serious attempt at a robbery," said Suffolk County police Detective Sgt. William Lamb.

But Darth wasn't kidding - and he wasn't going to be stopped by a non-Jedi Knight.

He won a "shoving match" against the incredulous customer before using his piece to order him to the floor, Lamb said.

And his weapon was no joke. He was carrying a pistol instead of a lightsaber.

Cops released a surveillance camera image yesterday showing Darth at the teller counter, loading bills into a bag, while the customer cowers on the floor.

The fake Darth made a quick-footed getaway, and the bank was still checking its drawers late yesterday to figure out how large his take was, Lamb said.

It was the second recent off-the-wall bank robbery. On Wednesday, NYPD cops arrested a man dubbed the "Bouquet Bandit," saying he brought flowers and potted plants into banks he robbed.
